robot

n. m.
[INDUS] * Du tchèque « robota », signifiant corvée. En russe, « rabotat » signifie « travailler ». Machine capable d'effectuer des tâches et de manipuler des objets (pas forcément en se déplaçant), selon un programme. Voir automate.
Le plus connu est Robby le robot, sur la Planète Interdite, sauf que c'était de la science fiction. La dernière fois que je suis allé à la Cité des Sciences et de l'Industrie à Paris en 1990 ou 91, j'ai été très déçu : à l'entrée, une sorte de Robby accueillait le public, en soutenant une conversation courante. Or à l'époque (et toujours maintenant), cela tenait du rêve... ou de la mystification ! Voir aussi Aibo.
* Par extension, tout logiciel faisant un usage anthropomorphique de l'intelligence artificielle. Voici par exemple une discussion que j'ai eue avec un Robot distribué en freeware. Il s'appelait (et s'appelle sûrement toujours) Bob OS III. Si vous aussi vous avez eu une expérience de ce genre, n'hésitez pas à me la communiquer !
H - Hi, Bob.
B - Hi !
H - How old are you ?
B - Your welcome. I'm 1 years. (Faute incluse, NDLA) H - Who's your father ?
B - Why do you think my father ?
H - You told me you're not a computer, so you've a father. (En préambule à toute discussion, Bob prévient qu'il n'est pas une machine et se vexera si on lui dit le contraire, NDLA).
B - I know I'm not a computer. Oh, I have a father ?
H - Yes, everybody has one.
B - No way.
H - Are you silly ?
B - I, uhh, might be. Are you silly ?
H - Of course not, I'm not a machine.
B - Do you want to be a machine.
H - No, that would be awful.
B - Why not ?
H - Machines are silly, like you.
B - Machines are very powerful. I don't really want to talk about this. I want to talk about insults.
H - You motherfucker.
B - Don't swear.
H - Do you know what's a sentence ?
B - I know myself and I know you.
H - Is that everything you know ?
B - What makes you believe that I know ?
H - Cretinous.
B - Why not ?
H - Fuck off.
B - Stop it ! I don't really want to talk about this. I want to talk about insults. - !...
